Same here. I plan to buy my car. Still have a remaining year on warranty and finding a new car with 18K miles on it, knowing how well kept ours is would be tough. Hence - just purchasing my car off lease (thanks to Audi's 0.9% interest rate in lease) and after warranty expires next year - either consider Audi Pure Protection or trade for another car.

Since this seems to be a topic of interest to a lot of people, here is some more detail.

The residual (Audi FS contracted) for a 3 year old Audi Q7 is roughly 54% give or take 1%.

Audi has a system where a dealer can make an offer for a Q7 coming off lease in order to resell to it's customers. Audi allows that to encourage dealers to take the overhead associated with a lease return. It is cheaper for dealers. Audi would also otherwise have to "wholesale" or auction the car.

Some of the readers who posted here were correct, used Q7s are selling for ~60% of MSRP when new and so the purchase of your lease can be profitable.

Here are some numbers from my transaction:
2007 Q7 3.6 Premium (Plus) with 28,000 miles had a purchase price of $33,400. The dealer I purchased it from was willing to sell it to me for $32,700 CPO, with 3.5% 60 month loan. But then wanted me to purchase a warranty for $1800.

I negotiated with 2 other dealers in town and got one to sell me my car for $32,200 including CPO and warranty and a 3.5% interest rate. I suggest taking your first offer and getting the most aggressive dealer in the region beat it.

Similar cars were listed locally for $39,000. Of course, these have ~10% built in.

Audi was not at all helpful in the process, so deal with the dealer directly. The financing was an Audi program.

The reason that the dealers can do it is Audi will sell the car to them at "Market Value" irrespective of what the residual is. Different dealers will get different pricing so it is important to shop around.

Please also note that the dealer will not spend any time or money fixing up things on the car that are not covered by warranty in these situations. A scratch on my car, worn tires, etc. However, in order to sell it CPO they will require you to fix these before you take your car in.

I'm purchasing a 07 3.6 premium off a lease from an individual with 13 months of the warranty left tomorrow. 29K miles on it. A late build 12/06 with all options but the 20 inch wheels for $32.9. Which from what I've seen at the dealers I saved a few grand. But I have to put back brakes on it in a few months and a new set of tires later this year some time I already know that. I bought this one because it was one of the 3 colors my wife wanted and it has the factory tow package whihc can be hard to find. Phatom black with biege inside. hope it works out. the owner put the IPOD cable/interface in and he's giving me the rear rubber mat for the back. This guy was single and the third row of seats have never been sat in and the back seat was rarely used.

Picked up the 07 Q7 today and drove in back 360 miles, I fell in love with it driving it back to my house. it handles real nice. ride can get a little hard I see without the air spension. But I knew that. But I get there to pick up the car and the inside is filthy. I don't think this guy ever cleaned it. And I also find out one option was not on the car that he said it was, the convienence package. Oh well took it anyway. what do you guys use to clean the leather seats and the plastic inside. I need something strong. I averaged 21 miles to the gas driving back on the high way. seems to be ok so far. I also found two small scratches that I saw on the pictures of the car but one scratch was alittle worse than I was told I'll have to work on that. When I do the back brakes I'll make a write up and post it here. Also pictures tomorrow when its not dark out. I just got home from getting up at 4:30 am to catch a plane down and then drove 6.5 hours back. long day..

I don't know the answer to that question but my 07 3.6 only had a piece in the rear sunroof replaced and had a skip in the MMI once and they could'n find anything. the first owner said he had no problems with it. this one is a late 07 built in Dec. of 06 so I think they got it right after so many. We'll see, I hope its ok. And I don't have every option so that might help too. First owner had the dealer take care of all the maintenance at the right times etc... Just brakes and tires need replacing.... The first owner was planning no keeping the car until he found he could make money on it selling it to me and wanted a car. (BMW M3)
