Looking at a 2014 3.0 Q7 TDI premium plus to replace my 2007 Q7. Anyone have any experience with this year and trim, specifically the turbo diesel aspect? I'm looking for long-term reliability with this engine and components before buying. TDI is a totally new adventure. I've read reviews til I'm blue in the face, not really the info I was hoping for. JDPowers gave it low marks for reliability.

FWIW I bought my 2013 TDI with about 35k on it. It’s about to 60k now and have only needed the scheduled maintenance other than a preventative flush of the transmission and rear diff. I believe there’s some much higher mileage 2013+ (change in some engine mechanicals this model year) TDIs on this board who I hope will weigh in.

mine is a A6 TDI 2014 but with 68,000 miles NO ISSUES with anything, most reliable car I have ever owned. Engine uses no oil between 10K changes, had the transmission and three differentials changed at 65K, brakes at 67,500. Same engine/transmission but of course a different weight vehicle.

Our 2011 TDI of course will have to be bought back this year due to the emissions issue. It has been the best vehicle we have ever owned. It is @ 120000 miles now and drives as nicely as it did new. We are shopping for a 2015 that has had the emissions fix. There is nothing else out there that I know of that offers, 7 passenger seating, 6600 lb towing and 600 miles highway range on a tank of fuel, along with superior highway comfort and great styling.
As to reliability, we have had very few issues. The diesel specific ones have been a NOX sensor twice under warranty, and an AdBlue transfer pump at 105000 miles ($500.)
Otherwise, it’s had a drivers seat motor, a rear hatch latch and a heater fan. That’s it other than brakes twice, 3 sets of tires, two brake fluid flushes, a trans fluid flush and 12 oil and filter changes.
Day in and day out we average about 23 mpg. Easily gets 28 mpg on a long highway run.
