I've pulled (short distance) well over the 6600lb limit of my factory tow/air suspension 4.2L (guessing more like 8k lbs). No WD hitch but I did install a Hopkins Insight brake controller. Pulled/handled fine. I've also pulled my 20ft car hauler with stuff in it, approximately 4500lbs, again it was perfect. Heavy steel open 18ft trailer with my old C5-A6Q on it (so, likely over 5000lbs), again it was perfect.

Really height rise? wow.. I mean I know the Q7 sits 8" lower then my F150. But it was also an FX4. With water, batteries and propane tanks its around 5500. After I load it with family and food and so on I don't see it being more then 6200 although i've never had it on a scale. I don't pull with water ever. So I feel with the Q7 with the factory towing package rated for 6600 lbs will be more than enough.. As far as load disbursement, I have read the manual and they do not recommend using sway or load distribution because of the air suspension with the towing package. I have not yet purchased this Q7 as there aren't many out there with the actual towing package..

Love it, This is what I need to hear. It is very difficult to give that 10000lbs of pulling power but the Q7 is a very attractive alternative AND saving money on fuel while pulling..

My 2015 Q7 3.0 TDI gets 29-30 mpg at 70-75 mph on the highway. When pulling my 4400 lb camper trailer at the same speeds, it gets about 17 mpg.

VanAtlanta,
I have a 2015 Q7 TDI and am in the process of setting it up to tow my 24ft travel trailer (4200 dry weight). My problem is when I plug the trailer into the seven wire receiver the only response I get is the trailer's left rear LED tail light flashes rapidly no matter what lights I turn on. Do you have any suggestions as to what is wrong. I have called numerous Audi dealers and the response is always the same....." Bring it in and we will check it out" and then I find that none of them have ever been able to connect a trailer to a Q7. Very frustrating!!

Thanks,

RFH4BCH

Have you tried to use an adapter that adjusts for the LED's in your trailer? My Q7's never needed one, but my MB did.

I use this tester: Curt Manufacturing 58270 Towing...
Amazon Amazon
If the car detects a problem it should be displayed on the dash. Also there is a 20a fuse for the tow module in the back. I blew the fuse once when I connected a trailer with shorted running lights, then there was no lights.

Have you used the trailer with a different vehicle? This might be an obvious question, but all your light fixtures are good on the trailer?? In the past I've seen the trailer plug rust within the plug and need to have the ends of the wires cut and reconnected.
I have towed our boat and i just plugged in and it was all good to go. I put a new plug on the trailer earlier this year and wired it to match my suburban and it works with both vehicles with no issues.

I bought a 2014 Audi Q7 back in July, it has the factory receiver hitch with the 7 prong plug on it. I put a test light on it and came up with nothing on all pins. I don't have a trailer to tow but I am going to build a 5x10 utility trailer this winter for it with electric brakes. I just wanted to check things out and found out I have no power at all in the back. Have not had the time to check out why there is no power there. did talk to the original owner and he said he never ever used it.

Just find it odd that it does not even work.

I Just Today found out myself why the pin has no power. In order for it to work it has to be flashed. Apparently the tow package and wiring harness are 2 different options. I'm pissed to say the least. Audi charges 300 plus to flash it. I just now came on here to see if there was a way around paying 300$
