We will have our Q7 Prestige two weeks this Tuesday. Traded 2007 GL450, the Q7 is alive when you drive it. All the design pieces fit together with simple but functional styling in my book! Check out the design of the windshield wiper arms, the air suspension is tops. Great job Audi!

We test drove the Lexus GX 460, Infiniti JX 35, BMW X5, and ended up getting a 2013 Audi Q7 SLine Prestige. The X5 seemed cramped for space but drove quite well, the JX drove well has a lot of good features and is also priced the best but we felt it missed the luxury feel of the competition. The GX460 was very nice and Lexus has done well making good changes compared to our GX470. However, we didn't want the V8. We chose the Audi bc overall we felt it met all our needs of having a wonderful look, drives amazing, and has good space.

I leased the first model year Q7 ('07) and loved it. I just got into a 2012 X5 Diesel. I considered going back to Audi but I like change, and it felt too similar (even though there are a lot of changes) in the new model vs the old. Ultimately I didnt need the extra size of the Q7 over the X5. But I will say this, even though the Q7 drives nice, the X5 out drives it every time. So it depends on what you're looking for. Most of these (minus the RR) will probably be fairly maintenance free for a while (if you go new). The Q7 and X5 seem to hold their value the best. The Q is probably a bit more exclusive given the low Audi production numbers (you dont see as many Q7s as X5s), but its also a lot larger.
If I wasnt pressed for time to get into something, Id wait until next model year. We're bound to see some interesting developments in the next gen Q7 and next gen X5s.

Out of curiosity what was the price difference between the JX you looked at and the S-Line Q7 you purchased? ~$10K?

I think the JX would be a pretty good match to the base Q7 3.0T. The tests I have seen are pretty average but it has a lot of nice features. My only question is why didn't Infiniti use the FX35's version of the 3.5 V6(and auto tranny) to differentiate from the Nissan Pathfinder? 265hp is kind of weak compared to everyone else, while 303hp would have been nice.
