Q7 vs. ML 350, X5 and Cayenne
#11
I'm leaning toward an X5, convince me.
I've been waiting for devine intervention to pick my replacement for my 4 yr old V70R that I still like, but need some added ground clearance. While I'm at, easier entry and exit will be nice with doors up a little higher.
You've read the Audi pluses, I have too, that's why it's in the running. X5 bonuses:
Better handling, better downshifts, better acceleration, more sporting in every way actually, better seats (not just subjective, go try them), Air conditioned seats, better looking tail (subjective)...
minuses: sunroof, funky shift lever, funky turn signal, dash board texture and shape is quirky, no Alcantra headliner option (love that in the Audi), back seat space, I think every SUV has lame leather choices (black or beige, americans are sheep when it comes to this), non offer a Manual transmission (baaaaa), they have terrible gas mileage, do any of them let you turn off all of the traction nannies and have fun in the snow?
Ramblings from a Volvo driver looking to have a, dare I say, truck.

Just test drove the ML350 with a buddy looking at SUVs...way under performs compared to the Q7 and
certainly uglier...for the money not even close on value...leatherette seats in a 50K vehicle. Engine and handling not there at all. I did own an X5 and performance of the Q7 reminds me of the X5 personally...just out ran a new full sixe range rover 3 lights in a row with the 3.6 loaner so seems quick to me. Parking lot manuvers easy too. I felt it is just as responsive although bigger in all situations. My x5 had quirky temp control (nevermind a bunch of strange problems) and certainly not as luxurious as the Q7...the new X5 I really think the interior went downhill.
In terms of exterior looks the X5 is more manly but a well set up S-line Q7 with the larger wheels looks more elegant and is more appealing to me. I will be buying a Q7 in the not too distant future.

Re: Q7 vs. ML 350, X5 and Cayenne
In the size perspective,
Q7 should compare with GL (not ML)
ML, X5, and Cayenne should be compared with Q5, not Q7.
regarding the Q7's look, I think Q7 is the best one among ML, X5, and Cayenne. especially, ML and X5 look very dated (ML and X5 do not make any BIG changes if you compare the current models with the previous ones(W164 and W163; E53 and E70). Both ML and X5 are made in US.)
