Cleaning it is all that is required. When I replaced my sensor and put Rain X back in, a day later the light was back on. I then realized it was the Rain X that was the problem. I pulled the new sensor out and flushed the reservoir. I cleaned the sensor probes with acetone and put the good old blue washer fluid back in. No more light.

Honestly, I took it to the kitchen sink, used Dawn dish soap and a wash rag.

Be careful not to get the "connector end" wet.

The recommended Audi windshield fluid has some pretty impressive freeze protection numbers = -70C / -94F That's crazy cold!

Would probably run you $100 to fill the whole reservoir to peak performance - I bet it's priced like liquid gold.

i wonder if the sensor is heated and the heat causes the solution to gel on the sensor.

dealer replaced my sensor under warranty. no cleaning or anything. i was told it has been very common this season. apparently rain-x changed their solution and many customers have come in with orange gunk on the sensor.

There is already a class action lawsuit.

However, seeing as how no parts actually need replaced and most complaints are under warranty... I'm not sure how well it will go.

And no, the sensor isn't heated.
