Default Quick Question on Ross-Tech Fault Code Listing

Hey everyone,

I am trying to chase fault codes on my 07' SLine Q7. I will spare all of the detail (I have 20+ faults), I have a few, that are not located on the Ross-Tech page (Ross-Tech Fault Codes)

Two examples are:
- 02256 (Quiescent Current - Upper Limit Exceeded - Intermittent)
- 00658 (control head - Implausible Signal - Intermittent)

Thoughts?
George

what modules threw these codes? are these persistent (ie, keep returning)? were there any other codes recorded on the modules that threw these codes?

Based upon sparse information provided, I think you have/had an electrical issue.

Step 1 of using a ross tech on a decade old vehicle, save the codes, clear them out and see whats really wrong (fix the ones that wont go away first, then work on ones that return intermittently, ignore ones that never come back) .. If this is your first use w/VCDS all you got is a bucket full of red herrings, as far as you know thats every fault its ever had in its lifetime and thats no help.

There's a separate sub-forum in the Electronics section for discussing VAG-COM issues and it's sponsored by Ross-Tech so you should consider posting there instead for support.

Hey mate. Just because it is not displayed on the ross-tech web does not equate to there been no meaning to the fault code numbers, more they are defined to the original OEM interpretation.
your 02256 is in relation to either your canbus circuit having a load or output needed without the car recognising any switched inputs from you or you have a faulty control/controller that is pulling current rather then going into “sleep state”.
Your 00658 is more just a ”component identifier” code number meaning “control head” or (07). This is the brain for all the MMI units to come together and then format the data onto your mmi screen. With this fault code there should be a dash code . Like -04 eg. this will tell you what is wrong with your (07) module bud.
as stated Plenty times by others also. Do a scan download first, save it, clear all DTC’s then go for a drive or so and see what comes back and then investigate from there mate.
see how ya go

Thanks for this! Stupid question- What exactly is a "control/controller"? Is it an electric module? Or, is it an adjective of sorts? Meaning there is a 'factor' at play?

Also, in your reference to "there should be a dash code . Like -04 eg."... I do not see one, it looks like this:

1 Fault Found:
00658 - Control Head
008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00101000
Fault Priority: 7
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 178
Mileage: 211229 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2018.10.26
Time: 14:15:15

Freeze Frame:
Bin. Bits: 001

Hey bud. In regards to the dash code, the -008 implausible signal is the fault code. The first numbers just reference the module it relating to. As for the other question, yes a control or controller is basically the same as an ECM but on a smaller scale. For an example on the q7 all 4 doors have their own controller, meaning that all the switched inputs on each door like window switch, speakers, door handle and handle lights etc are all communcated through each controller then those messages are feed to other controller etc like the MMI where you can change door settings from the MMI like sound, auto locking etc.

when your door are shut and the car is not been used most controllers go into a sleep state and snooze until you open a door or unlock your car etc, if one of these controllers are not sleeping or a faulty door switch etc is the fault, the controller will pull power from the battery but the car will recognise that you have not opened the door for example and be confused as to why it needs power without really needing it, thus giving you the fault code.
