Default Rain Sensor/ Wiper hatred

Does anyone else hate the wiper system in their Q/Audi?

Man it just does not work. It's our first real rain out here in NoCal... and they were really, really inconsistent. Sometimes they would wipe the heavy rain and sometimes I would be totally blind.

I want to turn it off and have it just be regular intermittent wipers at this point... maybe there is a VAG fix.

dirty sensor? check the area behind the rear-view mirror and see if it's blocking the sensor.

We've got crappy inconsistent weather here and mine work fine as well in all conditions... def sounds like your sensor's dirty or faulty...

Do you have HID foglight installed in your car?

Mine has been on auto since 2006... Ireland lots of types of wet and bugs. Agree about bugs or dirt on sensor. Watch out for the wipers coming on while you clean it if its on auto.
BTW you can change the reaction settings via VCDS not that anyone has bothered AFAIK.

If you mean, did I upgrade my OEM fog lights to HIDs, no, they are OEM. Why?

Thanks for the feedback... it's also possible that it's user error, I never did read the manual on them. I assumed the lever on the stalk increases sensitivity as you move it upward, that's how it worked on my Allroad.

The sensor couldn't be dirty... although I do wax my windshield, the car only has 900 miles on it.

I'll check for any codes.

Thanks Just4Fun on the VAG comment, I'll poke around and look for those settings.

your sensor on the window is going to look for any kind of distortion on the glass (e.g. "raindrop") to activate the wipers, faster or slower. I suspect the wax you put on your windshield, when it gets wet, is making streaks (although not easily detectable by you, but the "eye" will see light distortion thru the glass) across the sensor, confusing it to think there's more or less rain on the sheild than there actually is. I think that's why they say Rain-x confound s these systems as well.

Just a guess.....
