Default Rear seat problem

The passenger side rear seat will not lay down flat anymore. It will recline up to allow the kids in the 3rd row, but it will not lay down flat. Is this a common problem? Is it fixable?

Thanks

I am assuming you know the lever on the top of the seat allows from 3rd row access and won't fold flat, rather just tilts and slides forward. The level on the side of the cushion toward the bottom folds it flat. I have confused these two levers myself from time to time so thought it worth a mention.

Yes. The drivers side seat works just fine, just the passenger side won't lay all the way down.

I'm having the same issue. It used to work, but now doesn't. The handle has next to no resistance when pulled up. The driver's side still does but not the passenger. Did you ever figure this out?

I have exactly the same problem. I just purchased 2011 TDI and didn't check and the guy never told me about it. If someone has pulled it apart let me know how to fix it or I guess I will need to give it a shot.

Happened to me too. Simple fix. 2 or 3 screws (torx), pull it all apart and you will see the problem. If I remember correctly, the rod that actuates the folding mechanism pops out rendering the handle useless. I think I did something to prevent it from happening again but can't remember exactly what but it hasn't happened again since I fixed it about a year ago so it must have worked.

Yes it was really easy. Takes less than 5 min.

Slide off the plastic handle and lift the lever.

T25 Torx

Then you need to lift the plastic and bend it a bit with your hands a bit to lift it over the spots that hold it in place. You do not need to bend it like crazy you will feel where you need to lift it off or bend it over. I only moved it up and away a little bit to be able to see the cable.

Then you will be able to see the little cable. It goes over a small post that you need to slot it back onto.

Bingo, great pictures.

Easy fix, poor design.
