Default Satellite Radio installed ...Woot!

Dealer quoted me $595.00 for the unit and $120.00 for the install. After doing some research I found some had used the same unit out of a 2006-2008 A6/A8 and had success. I ordered a unit off ebay for $150.00 and installed it myself in about 20 minutes start to finish.

The unit stores in the back right fuse compartment. If your Q7 is pre-wired you will find a Green plug, a power harness plug, and a fiber optic loop plug. Take off the loop on the fiber optic connection and just plug these 3 into the Satellite unit and turn on your Radio. (You will then have to call XM to set up your service).

The only issue that I am having (probably because my unit is out of an A6/A8) is my Satellite unit has a green and brown plug connection on the back but my Q7 only has the green wire to plug into it, (Antenna Wires?) I am getting an error message everytime I turn on the Satellite function on the MMI. It still works fine but the error message shows for about 5 seconds then goes away. My guess is it is throwing this error because it is looking for the brown plug in connecton. For me, this is a small price to pay for the saving I got.

The part # is 4E0 035 593 A or 4E0 057 593 A. The mounting braket that you can get from the dealer ($29 and change) that holds the Satellite Radio component into place does not fit on this A8 unit and I never bothered to see if the A8 bracket would fit into the Q7. I just used velcro to secure it in the fuse compartment.

I have never had Satellite Radio before but have wanted it ever since I drove a few service loaners that did.

Once you have satellite you never go back to regular radio. So many damn commercials.

I'm in the UK and believe DAB radio is as our equivalent.

Where is the fuse compartment you speak of and does this replace your regular radio module or is that still an option ?

Thanks

Si

It is in the "boot" behind the right rear access cover. The Satellite Radio is an addition to my Radio, CD, and AMI.......I guess I like options.
