Default Should I buy extra AdBlue just incase?

Okay... new to TDI engine and was told that once AdBlue is low... you can only drive approx 500 miles until refill AdBlue.

we are currently at 7000 miles and planning a roadtrip about 4500 miles. Should I buy extra AdBlue and put it in the trunk just incase? i know I can stop by an audi dealership to get it done... should I worry about this or just DRIVE?

another related question, where to buy AdBlue? Dealer? Online? How much do I need for this trip?

Note that AdBlue has a shelf life of 6-12 months, so don't buy more than you would expect to use in that time, otherwise you're just flushing your money down the toilet.

We stock a 1/2 gallon bottle G-052-910-A2 for $7.00. It comes with an adapter top for emergency "roadside" situations. It is a great idea to take one on a road trip. Plus if you don’t end up needing it on your trip just have your local dealer dump it in before it expires. Have a great trip!

Then cut the bottom out of that 1/2 gallon bottle for use as a funnel to add from the MUCH more economical 2.5 gallon for $13.50 jug (GUS-052-910-A3).

The dealer added 2.5 gallons when he delivered your car. He was supposed to add 5 gallons at No Charge at the 5,000 mile service.

Usage is about 1/2 gallon per 1,000 miles.

PS - Audi recommends adding a minimum of 2 X 1/2 gallon bottles if your low warning light comes on.

We stock the GUS-052-910-A3 as well for $11.81. Most people don't want to drive around with the large jug in their car. The 1/2 gallon size should be enough to get you on the road again. But in the end I will leave the decision up to the OP. I have seen what this stuff does to concrete so I personally wouldn't recommend cutting the bottle up and using it as a funnel (great idea in a pinch though).

You must be around some pretty poor quality concrete. It hasn't hurt mine a bit with multiple spills. That goes for the vehicle's paint finish and my hands, too.

It's a dilute water solution of a pretty benign chemical that's used for fertilizer and as a nitrogen supplement in farm feed.

Yes, it is just dilute urea. Probably no worse for your concrete than dog pee. You could spread it sparingly on your grass during damp weather to green it up and make it grow faster but there are cheaper ways of getting the grass to grow.

In the UK you should be able to source DEF/Adblue for less than £1 per litre plus tax. It is becoming increasingly available everywhere in packs from a couple of litres to 1000litre IBC's and also, if you run a fleet of trucks, from Brentaag delivered in bulk tankers.

In my experience, when the VW/Audi stuff is spilled on the shop floor it leaves a white stain that can't be cleaned off for months. I am not a chemist, but I know what I saw.

We spill it on our shop floor and a mop and soapy water takes off the crystal looking film it leaves
