Default Something weird with my remote key FOB

I just got a 2007 3.6 Q7, S-Line.

Something is weird with my key fob. It can't seem to lock or unlock every single time i press the buttons. Sometimes I have to try like 10 times, til it works. Or, I have to open and close the door again for it to work. Also, when it malfunctions, the little red light on the fob blinks fast.

Is this a known problem? Is there a fix or TSB?

Tks!!

JC

Default Check your car battery level in the MMI...

Same happened to me. The car saves charge but disabling some functions if running low. Central locking is one of the first. Has the car been parked up for a while?

Default Is it range/position related? (e.g. 'deaf' when behind the car but OK when in front/side)

Our Touareg had extremely limited remote range when approaching from behind. That problem was later addressed with a [couple] TSBs..

Default Re: No...it happens pretty often now.....

I don't think its the battery, cuz it happens often and frequent now. It could happen just few minutes after I turn off the ignition. Yesterday it happened at the gas station!!

Btw, how do you check the battery level in MMI?

I do have the color MMI, but don't have the Nav. (infotainment pkg).

Tks!!

Default Re: No, it happens even when I'm staying next to the driver's door or the hood..

I don't think its position related. Rather, I think its electric related somehow.

Similar problem happened to my 2005.5 B7 S4, and there was a TSB that replaced both key fobs, and it worked perfectly. Otherwise, from day 1, the S4 could only lock/unlock whenever it felt like it.....

I am wondering if there's a TSB or recall on this problem on Q7???

You have a failing remote antenna. Get dealer to change it - I had same prob and it was fixed easily

Default You have to take it in to the dealer

Something with a battery update and a flash.

Default Re: Do you know exactly wat kind of work has to be done?

Is there a TSB number or something? I just wanna get as much detail info as possible before I go in. Sometimes the service dept. do not know anything of this nature and usually takes DAYS.....for them to find out...

Tks,
JC

Default As telekenetic stated, there is a TSB for poor remote range...

Don't know if this is the root of your problem, however, so YMMV.

Technical Bulletin - 28-06-03 Remote transmitter key range is insufficient (Dec. 11, 2006)

Condition:
* Range for remote transmitter key operation is insufficient.
* There are no DTCs for this condition

Technical Background:
* An electrostatic charge is induced into the antenna lead of the ignition starter switch during vehicle production. This charge causes damage to the antenna, which limits the range of operation for the remote transmitter key.

* Broken solder joint of antenna wiring at left rear glass.

Service:
Vehicles up to VIN 4L*7D033200

* Check to see if both remote keys have the same conditions.
* If both do, check the wiring and connections of the R47 antenna module at the left rear window (Figure 1) and of the ignition lock (E415) for correct installation. If a solder point has fallen off, replace the window.
* If the wiring and connections check OK, replace the ignition lock (E415)

Vehicles between VIN4L*7D033201 and VIN 4L*7D054502
* Check to see if both remote keys have the same range conditions.
* If both do, check the wiring and connections of the R47 antenna module at the left rear window (Figure 1) and of the ignition lock (E415) for correct installation. If a solder point has fallen off, replace the window.
