Was rushing the other morning and coffee went all over the 2G MMI button pad of my 2008 Q7.. I quickly wiped it up and all was fine yesterday. Even this morning it was fine, but at lunch I had to run home and the button pad was unresponsive, only the scroll wheel and volume **** work.. audio is fine and it plays music but I can't change the channel.. after about a minute the system shuts down and reboots.. I think it's ruined
can i I buy a used button pad on eBay? (They're like $299) and will there be extra coding with it, or will I be able to plug it in and it will work?
I also see that I could replace the board.. that seems a lot harder
what are my options?

The seller of mine neglected to mention that he'd spilled a sugary beverage (pop or latte?) on the MMI. It was completely clean to visual inspection however I discovered on the drive home that about two of the buttons were nearly nonfunctional and a couple more were dodgy. When I had some stereo work done I asked that they disassemble and clean the MMI. Came out perfectly and was completely worthwhile to me to pay an audio installer shop who also details to do it as I would've certainly broken or lost something in the process.

Thanks for all of the answers guys. Replacing the board seems pretty easy after watching the video. Hmmmm. That's what I'm thinking I should do. The MMI is functioning normally again, but who knows when it will act up again. Is buying a board from china a smart idea? I'm afraid of causing more damage than there already is.
And Jayhawk94, there aren't any audio/stereo specialists who I would trust where I live or within a 2 hour drive, unfortunately.

No point buying from china...just get a used model from ebay, imho.
