So my wife’s 2015 Q7 S-Line was having steering wheel issues as to a noise so with a recent battery replacement we had them check it out. They said only thing that can be done is a full steering column replacement. Well for $5000 we decided to live with the noise.

Of course that's their answer, LOL. Not sure if you wanted help since you didn't describe or provide details.
Is the noise coming from inside the car, or is it a result of low fluid level / old hydraulic fluid...power steering makes all sorts of noises when the fluid gets old and/or low. On the Q7, it is important to note that the brake fluid reservoir is up by the base of windshield, covered by the leaf guard/plastic mesh. The largish reservoir underhood that's hanging out inside the engine compartment is the hydraulic fluid...aka power steering fluid. Get some fresh fluid in correct grade, use a hand pump or 'turkey baster' to get the old fluid out of reservoir, and refill with fresh fluid. While not a complete fluid exchange/flush, it ensures your power steering rack is protected. Hint: If the fluid color in this reservoir is dark, then it's oxidized; change it.
Now if it's just a plastic scraping noise inside the car, you probably need a $5K steering column replacement, yup, that'll sure fix it alrighty.
