Default Darn it... I'll make a G10 block the lower the clamp down .5" and it will be OK...

As long as the inside clamps lowered to the 2 holes, they will be OK. We only need to use this a few times a year any how. They will not be permanently on the car since they create wind noise.
Until REIs in the states sell these special fit kits for Q7, I'm not buying any more stuffs... hehehehhe.

Cheers,

I still don't get why Audi doesn't make decent crossbars, maybe with the chrome finish...

Default I think it must be contractual. Thule OEMs Audi racks, yet their Aero line looks much better

and is cheaper to boot (IIRC)

Default My Thule 440 clamps look different than those

My inside clamp goes down as far as the two holes (but doesn't hook into them). They are beyond solid. Trust me, it would take a HUGE amount of force to get them off. You can rock the whole car pulling on the racks and the racks don't budge a millimeter.

I'm not sure why yours look so different.

Default Oh thats cool to know -- so you bought recently sold as the Specialty Thule 440 kit?

I wonder what this kit in the photo is? When i look at the Thule instructional PDF, the clamp arm seems more of a "scoop" than what is pictured a the top of this thread

Default The 440, by definition, is a specialty kit for Suburus. There are 3 special fit kits for the

various permutations Subie uses (SR1, SR2 and SR3 in Thule-speak). I think the difference between Maul19s and ltooz_a6_a8's is simply the fit kit being used. Regardless, if the Intracker 4902 from UK fits the 440 towers, that would probably be the best fit when using the 440.

Default Re: The 440 is for subarus -- yea got that but...

it seems the pics from the OP has a shorter inside clamping "tongue" compared to what Maui19 is saying.

So i was wondering if the OP has a different set than the 440 Maui19 has.

i'm familiar with the official UK-sold Q7 fitkit, and plan to order that and use the US 440 feet/bar, but just wanted to get clarity that the feet would really clamp like Maui17's, and not OP (itooz_a6_a8)

Default Mine looks just like the PDF in the link you posted

My inside clamp has a little lip on bottom, and appears to be a little longer so that it extends down the roof rail further.

The fit kits are simply rubber inserts that fill the open space between the clamps above the roof rails. I just carved up some dense black foam and inserted that. You can't even tell the difference unless you're right on top of it.

Default They're made so many different clamps, it's hard to know. Until they make one specifically for Q7

then I'll get the legs for the bars. Q7 is still new and according to the pdf file, the inside rail doesn't look straight as the Q7. I think in the next year or so, they will come up with the kit for Q7.

If you live in the states, go to any REI and try to fit one to make sure before you buy anything...
