Tranny Fluid change cost

Tranny Fluid change cost
I been trying to find out how much it would cost changing the tranny fluid, called 3 dealers in the area North Jersey, they supposed to call me back, but none did, found a shop online and called was told around $850 including the filter and whatnot, that plus the oil change $1000.. Is this reasonable price, i thought it was a bit high for a indy shop. BTW all part are brought from the dealer.

You need to figure out how they are doing it. Are they going to do a tranny flush? I would only do a drain and fill personally.

You need to figure out how they are doing it. Are they going to do a tranny flush? I would only do a drain and fill personally.

I'm not sure if he was going to do a flush or just a drain, i will call and find out. That probably explain why the dealer isn't calling me back because of the lifetime.

Or any good German Specific Indy Mechanic, I agree @not2fast.. just drain, measure and refill that exact ammount, forget whats in the cooler.. Those guys wont flush the proper fluids through or likely even have em on hand.
Dont go too cheap, some corner lube shop just gonna botch the hell out of it and you wont like that repair bill.. The key is to find someone trustworthy, and for me.. thats myself.
While your getting it done might also have em do same to the diffs (drain and fresh OEM lube).. there's no such thing as a lifetime lube, unless your dying young.. IIRC Aisin the guys whom made my tranny typically have very conservative fluid change recommendations of ~60k.. I personally think its ~70-80k tops with just about any kinda transmission if you want to make it past 200k on the odo w/original gearbox shifting smoothly.. After that many miles it deserves it IMHO, if it needs it or not.. the cost is negligible per mile at that point, not like changing your oil every 3k because thats how your daddy did it, despite basically everyone agreeing that manufacturer recommendations of 10k+ are plenty conservative for longevity in modern engines w/modern oils.

Like I said. Ask a transmission specialty shop. A good one will know more about your transmission then any Euro specialist. It is what they do. They usually laugh about the lifetime fluid

The $850 is a bit less than I paid at an indy shop using Audi parts. When you compare prices make sure they're for the 3.6L car, as Aisin parts cost less than ZF parts. Parts-wise, the pan gasket was $116, filter $138, and fluid $42 per quart (or liter, I don't know which), plus a few miscellaneous hardware parts. The labor was 3.5 hours, $420. It IS a real pain in the neck job without the car on a lift. Check around the "mechatronic sleeve" for any leaks, or just proactively replace it. It's a $39 part, and replacing it takes only a few minutes once the pan is dropped. Without a dipstick (thanks, Audi!), you can't tell what the fluid level is once a leak starts.
