Audiblack - Thanks for the pointers. At this point the dealer is telling me they are only "authorized" to fix the failing drain which leaves me with 3 others that have the potential to fail. I've called Audi USA several times today and left VM's for my assigned specialist indicating that I want all 4 done, but she hasn't returned my calls. Would love to negotiate the same solution that you did.

To clarify, did you have to push Audi USA to do all 4, or did they offer to do it for you? Who offered the resolution, Audi or the dealer? The dealer is giving me some gentle pushback, and I'm trying to determine if I should redirect with stronger efforts at Audi.

Thanks!

Also keep record of all your emails, calls, case number and name of customer service rep, and let them know you are doing this in case of future leaks and possible electronic damage.
It is exactly the same situation I had in the past, until the right rear drain failed causing electronic damage and the headaches while I was on vacation in South Florida.

So I just got off the phone with the dealer, and they told me the recent TSB only addresses the 2 front drains, and that "there is no change or fix in the design of the rear drains whatsoever." The dealer said the only thing that causes leaks in the rear drains is when they get kinked, and again, there is no retrofit parts or proactive fix they can take outside of inspecting the hoses for kinks and running water through to look for leaks.

Is this everyone else's understanding as well?

The good news is the front retrofit kit covers both the left and right side, and this is being covered by my warranty. All they did for the rears was to inspect and flush, and the dealer said everything checks out perfectly.

I had a leak in the right front and then later on on the left front drain, in each visit I demanded all drains to be changed, and my dealer kept telling me that the other drains were OK, two month later while driving on heavy rain, I lost all sounds from the MMI, the rear leak killed the amplifier ...

Thanks Rad. So what was the final resolution on the rears? Did they replace the drains with the exact same drain, or is it your understanding that a retrofit/fix exists for the rear drains as well.

I'm heading down the exact same path as you, and the dealer is telling me my rears look and flow test fine. I'm pressing for them to fix, but they're telling me there is no retrofit kit to fix the rears therefore there is nothing to fix.

Dealer that fixed the rear drains stated they were in horrible shape, my Q7 was out of warranty and I had to pay for the drain/labor, my dealer paid for the amplifier/labor. I still do not understand how Audi has not taken responsability with these sunroof design flaws.

I had the front drians leak first , then the back drains, lucky the back drain repair was on the edge of the warrantee period. I had to bring the Q7 back 5 more times to fix the back drains. No charge because they warranted the repair for 12 months, 12K miles. so by the 5 time the Q7 was out of warrantee but they still had to fix it because of the repair warrantee. They ended up replacing the whole sun roof frame. That was what they should have done in the first place. That seemed to fix it. (knock on wood) all other drain repairs did no good. The frame design is what the problem is not the drains. So this repair might take a long while to get fixed until they decide to put a new frame in. Audi will cover the frame it's only about $1000 or at least in my cases they did. dealer said they should have replaced the frame the first time it leaked.
also my dealer said that the Audi only keeps the TSB's around for four years after that they treat them like they don't exist. My dealer showed me the TSB for the sun roof but as far as he was concerned it wasn't good any more. on the 07's. But I'm on my own now. hope it holds up.

Interesting... I just picked up my MY08 Q7 tonight, and when I got home after driving 30 minutes in the rain, there was a small puddle of water on the front passenger side rubber mat. I read the work order very carefully, and it specifically states they applied the TSB retrofit kit to the front drains, flow tested, and everything was working fine. Good times!

Needless to say, I'll be dropping it off at the dealer tomorrow morning at 6am without calling to schedule an appointment!

Default UPDATE...

The dealer just called and said they found some leaks in the sunroof frame sealant, but that the frame was OK. The Round #2 fix was to re-apply sealant to the existing frame.

Has anyone else that experienced these problems ever had the dealer reseal the frame? If so, did that solve the problems with leakage?
