Default Why debadge?

I posted this on the RS4 board and thought I should here as well.

I have always had this bias against folks who debadge. My assumption has always been that they were trying to hide the car they were driving and fool the rest of us into thinking they were driving the best model of the line etc. I do not think debadging is as bad as putting fake badges on to really fool folks, but I just always thought it was cheesy in the context of my assumptions.

I have noticed that lots of folks on this board debadge and so thought I should would ask folks why they do so. Maybe my assumptions are off and I don't mind having my bias changed.

Default I used to debadge the back of my Denali because I thought the badges were detracting.

The back badges were "GMC" and "Yukon XL" I just always preferred the cleaner look that badgeless gave me on that vehicle. Plus, those badges made it much harder to wash/wax and detail the vehicle.

That said, I've no intention of removing them from my Q7.

I live in Bay Area, and I still have people asking me what car is that.
