I bought some snows off of Craigslist last year for my '09 Q7 that came from a Cayenne. My summer tires are 19" and the Cayenne snows are 18". One thing you may want to consider is that the snow tires on the Cayenne wheels may only have one more season left for tread and they may not have the TPMS setup. If I had it to do again I would just go with a new set with TPMS straight from TireRack.

not always true. if it the proper wheel/tire combo then no suspension adjustments required. sizing will be very close to the same diameter. the tire profile will be the one that would be decreasing.
read this quick FAQ.

I have Nitto Terra Grappler's (I am assuming you are not talking about the Trail Grappler MT or Mud Grappler) as the winter setup on my GL450. They do not have the snow flake designation of a snow tire but they do quite well for my usage. I live in Southern California and my folks live in Tahoe. We head to Big Bear, Mammoth and Tahoe several times each winter and this is why I have two sets of wheels/tires.
If you drive in very cold and icy conditions I wold recommend a true snow tire over the Terra Grappler. It's the rubber compound that makes the difference and without the snow flake, your rubber compound gets very hard in really cold conditions which makes it less useful, regardless of the tread patterns.
That said, the Nitto does pretty well in the snow and OK on ice and rides well and is quiet on the freeway...hope this helps.
