Well the crank case did not fix the oil issue, the car seems to have lost its refinement at a minimum as well (power seemed ok, but it rumbled more and was still burning oil at about 1 qt per 500 miles for the last 4 or so quarts I put in) I decided to bite the bullet and after talking it over with the wife we decided we needed something bigger, so we traded it in for a Wagoneer L last week.

Do like the new ride, I miss the Audi in a few ways, although the size and utility for the new one can't be compared.

Audi was definitely more fun to drive on windy roads. I was hoping to keep it 2-3 more years, if I knew for sure that the engine would be reliable if I just put the oil in, I think I would have just kept doing so, but I did not want to end up with a repair which could exceed the value of the vehicle and I did not want to have an issue in an inconvenient location

My latest video below, updating my followers on my dream Audi having this problematic engine in it, telling them what's coming next and showing them how I drive the car with a misfiring engine. This forum thread is being very helpful!

Glad the thread is helpful, but this post, in general, isn't. Come on man, you were doing so good!

Survived the 2,240miles of towing. 0FsQ7 asked for a quart about 3/4 of the way down to FL, and then again just after pulling into the driveway once we got home to Buffalo. Overall it did pretty well. Averaged around 13mpg for the tow. Never dropped below 5th gear, even in the mountains of WV and PA. Had ambient temps over 100deg on Saturday when we were headed through FL, GA, SC, and NC. A/C, engine coolant, oil, and charge air temps all stayed inline despite the cruise being set around 75 most of the way. Did see the oil temp spike over 240deg on the climb out of NC into VA on the north side of Mt Airy. It's several miles of 5%+ grade, and I held the speed at 75. Probably could have slowed a little, but nothing else was indicating any issues. Was a weird feeling to spin the motor over 4k rpm, under load, for that amount of time. Had a scare about 200 miles from home yesterday. Got a "drivetrain malfunction" warning, and the car went into limp mode. Pulled off on the shoulder and got the code reader out. Pulled a misfires codes for #4 and #6. Recorded those, then cleared them. Turned the car off for ~2min, then restarted. Codes didn't come back, and we towed the remaining distance home without issue. Not sure what happened there. Maybe a piece of carbon gave up and got blown out? Maybe it was a fluke? Who knows. Scared the wife enough I've been told to start shopping for a replacement. Outside chance we never figure the issue, or the fix, out on this particular vehicle. Which is a shame because of all this data!

Here's the new graph. Last 4 quarts have averaged over 1k mi per quart. Trend line has flattened somewhat. (**EDIT**, new graph. Realized the last one had data cut off. Also added a tighter grid for better visualization)

Here's the MPG log from the trip if anyone is interested

It's probably not helpful to you but I think it is helpful to people who just found this lengthy thread and can't read through the thousand posts. I made a good summary and pointed out the issue with the potential remedies. No regret in that regard and I will do so again in the future if I have news.

This however I don't find useful and I consider spamming. We already know that the oil consumption will not improve and will keep getting worse. We also know that the rate of oil consumption can be affected by the age of the oil, the driving style and the environment factors. Many members reported the same thing without the lengthy repeated oil consumption data with one new line added each time. If I were you, I would post a thread just for that because you are spamming this one.

@kelisko Stop whining! Better to have data and graphs than just bla bla bla from you.

@AudiQ72017CREC Stop crying! Repeated data over and over with only minor additions is called SPAMMING!

No, it's not. Data collection and sharing is the basis for understanding the severity of a problem and the effectiveness of a remedy to that problem.

Continuously coming into a forum, about a vehicle you don't own, and only have an ancillary attachment to, to continue to promote your message, is quite literally, the definition of spamming; only slightly reworded. I googled the definition for you just to be clear.

Copying and pasting is spamming which is exactly what you have been doing, and which I definitely am not doing. Having the same opinion and expressing it in different ways on different occasions and in different contexts is not called spamming, sorry. English is a third language to me but I know that. Let's spare this thread of these unrelated back and forth exchanges, shall we? Just let everyone express their opinions. I have been annoyed with your repeated data which I initially found useful but did not bother you or anyone else with that. Don't mess with what I have to say or share and we'll be good.
