After this trip she's sitting at 62K miles. Taking her into my local Inde shop for engine oil/filter, trans oil/pan, and oil in all three diffs.

I'll consider myself lucky then as far as oil consumption goes!

Looks like I'm not the only one burning oil. Since I got my 2018 new, it has always burnt a quart every 3k miles and I've always brought it up with the dealer when it was in for servicing and they've always said it's normal. Now my car is at 60k and it burns a quart every 2k miles. Might be time to look for a new vehicle and sell/trade this oil burning one in. I can't fathom having to put a quart of oil in every other gas fill up if it were to get worse like others in here.

My 2017 Q7 3.0 with 79,000 miles started burning oil this year. Bought new, it has always been serviced according to dealer intervals and recommendations and driven softly.

Most recently it asked for a quart after 750 miles. Dealer recommends new pistons and rings for $28,000. Recent dealer estimate of trade in value is approx the same. (I also have a front marker light out, and received an estimate of $4,000+ for repair. They then offered free parts and to charge only $1,000 labor. I told them I could afford it, but couldn't bring myself to pay $1,000 for an LED bulb.)

I will see whether Audi is willing to eat this expense. If they won't make this right, then they will lose my future business and I will tell everyone why.

(To add insult to injury: Dealer called a Lyft for us while examining my car. Driver picked us up in a Honda Civic, said it had 300,000 miles on it with no major repairs.)

Spend more for less reliability. Got it! Thanks for pointing out the difference between a Honda and an Audi. That had escaped me.

I wasn't trying to be facetious. one of the issues I see with these vehicles is the deceivingly low cost of ownership which I think a lot of us agree isn't really true in the long run. If you lease these cars or dump them close to 60K they are great for nearly everyone.

perfect example is my mom had a babied allroad a4 with 60K on it and the rear diff was presenting issues and after a first fluid change it didn't get any better. dealer said it was 3-4K to get a new diff in the car so they traded it in on a brand new a4 allroad. no car should be detonating diffs at 60K for a 50K car, but I do think there is some built in obsolescence in the vehicles unless you go out of your way to literally over maintain an Audi. just my $0.02

Unfortunately, my vehicle has never made it to a 10,000 mile interval without the yellow oil indicator light come on. When I asked the Audi service agent , he states that the car does not typically make it to a 10,000 mile interval because of the large engine. Over the past 5 years the interval to add one quart of oil has been less and less. It has gone from ~9500, 7500, 3000 intervals. On July 22, 2021 I took my car in for the 80,000 mile service. The actual mileage on the odometer was 80,304. The car service was complete and returned. On August 16, 2021, my yellow oil indicator light came on at 81,588 miles. I called the my local Audi Service and was advised to come in for an oil consumption test. I also notified the National Audi Customer Service line to voice my concern for my car. I inquired if oil consumption is a known issue in the Audi Q7 2017. There was not a clear admission of this concern in their vehicles but it made me concern that this could be an issue because of historical issues with Audi's early consumption of oil. I am concerned because this vehicle has the oil indicator light come on in shorter intervals which make me concerned about the longevity and reliability of the engine.
Yes, I have ths ame issue with a 2018 Q7 currently 98,000 miles. I have to add 2 quarts between 10,000 mile service. I seem to have some oil coming out at the filler cap, not enough to wet a service towel, but enough to see that it is obviously oil. I have been careful to be sure it was not casued by spill over when I add the synthetic oil.

Not much different with a lexus or acura compared to an audi. May have to look into trading into a mdx type s before a major breakdown happens thatll total the car. My sisters 2010 mdx has 250k miles on it with only routine maintenance done and is still running strong with one of the best awd systems ive ever experienced. Was hoping this q7 would last more than 60k miles before starting to show signs of needing an engine rebuild

I had to have my engine rebuilt at 30k miles (pistons and rings). Wish I would have made it to 60k miles.

Totally agree with the MDX. I have a 2010 MDX but it only has 150K miles. I don't drive it much. The awd system handles the snow better than a Q7. I'm just keeping it for my kids to drive because finding a good used car is impossible nowadays.

I was going to get another Q7 but hesitated because I didn't want another 3.0 Audi engine. I don't believe Audi engines are designed for high mileage.

I ended up buying a Chevy Tahoe. Did 12K miles in 3 months driving across the country towing a RV. Its got the same Tech as Audi.

My Add 1 Quart light just went off on my Q7 this morning. Ugh, it was less than 2000 miles since my 100K service. Now I have to bring it to the dealer to top off....
