It certainly appears that the first quart of usage after a change is MUCH longer than once the oil is "broken in". However, I'm also curious if that timing is just coincidental, as I've been doing a LOT of highway miles on this change as well (two trips from Louisville to Buffalo), and I had a similar pattern with the last change (Louisville to Destin, and Louisville to Hilton Head) and the beginning of the previous cycle. SO......I'm not certain how to take that. I will say though, that the "doom and gloom" feeling about the oil consumption is far less in my head now that I'm tracking the data and starting to understand how bad the usage really is.

I still have to get to the Cummins dealership in Louisville to get the Valvoline Restore Gen 2 oil. Once I have that, and a place in Buffalo secured where I can mess with frequent filter changes, I still want to give that a try. Lots of life changes happening though, so there's a chance I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing for the next few months until life settles down a little.

More details as they arise.

2018 Audi Q7 3.0 , was burning about a quart of oil every 1200 miles. Engine finally enough and burnt an intake valve. I pulled the motor and have block and heads at the machine shop now. I called around for quotes and that hurt my feelings bad.

Second report of a burnt/broken valve in this thread.

What mileage are you at?

I am at 98K, I bought the car at 86k. After reading forums I would have passed on the Q7.

I think that holds true for any vehicle. None of them are immune to some issue or another.

The picture you posted, looks nearly identical to the previously posted image. Which cylinder did you lose? Looks like one of the "ends".

2017 Prestige. Same thing happened to me after about a year and a half with excess oil consumption. Exhaust valves environment is hell. Intake valves don’t see as much heat etc so they can look pristine. I think PCV valve failure led to my disaster. Gunar
