@Roy Keane Here's some more realistic advice from someone that isn't mad at Audi for their bad decisions.

1. Keep an eye on it. I'm still towing cross country with mine, and I'm right in the "danger zone" of failure mileage right now. Keep an eye on the oil burn, it seems to be the largest indicator of impending issues.

2. I feel like 2 quarts in a row at 140mile intervals is pretty big red effing sign that something is awry. If you get to that level, stop driving it and start investigating what the heck is happening.

3. A bore scope is a better diagnostic than a compression test. While you have the plug out, do both. However you're likely to hold good compression with significant deposits on the valves. All of the valve failures I've seen have been due to excessive carbon/oil deposits on the exhaust valve. Not much can be done to help clean that really other than pulling the head. You can run seafoam/techron/etc treatment if you like. We, as a group, don't have a ton of great accounts of that solving the issue.

I think if we drove them harder in the higher rpm range it would help prevent the carbon/exhast valve issue. A faulty PCV is where it starts to really build up the carbon. If mine started using more oil suddenly I would go ahead and replace that immediately. There was a point I remember a year or 2 before valve burn that I noticed it using oil. Gunar

Default Big Oil Consumption after 85k

2017 Q7 Premium Plus 3.0
Current mileage: 96,700
Started having oil consumption issues around 85,000
Was adding a quart every 1000 miles or so (Audi service claims that's "normal")
Currently down to a quart every 300 miles. Its rough.
I also just had a Drive System Malfunction last week for the first time ever. Was on a slight slope (5%) driving about 50mph. Felt like the tranny didnt want to shift. After message on screen, engine slowed down and clicked. I pulled off the highway. Turned off engine. Let it sit for a minute. Restarted and no more warnings. Last 700 miles have had no drive system issues.

Adding a quart every 1000 miles wasnt a huge deal, but adding it every 300 is crazy. Took it in for service, and they threw a borescope down the cylinders to look for scoring - said it was mild. No real solution offered except replace pistons or replace engine. Or I could try an oil additive to "clean" it out. Whatever that means.

Time to trade this in?

Try the piston ring desludging procedures discussed in this thread if you enjoy your Audi.

Also when was the last time the PCV Oil Separator was replaced? This is a Service Item as they do not last forever.

Is the desludging procedure this, "BG flush" that I see being discussed?

I'm sure the answer to the PCV question is never. Unless the dealership did it during a scheduled maintenance, but I highly doubt it.

They are trying to buy time. There's no such thing as "mild scoring". Scoring is BAD NEWS! What you need is a compression test which will likely come back with bad results. You NEED to replace pistons + rings or replace the entire engine. If they offer you a good deal, replace the engine instead. If not, trade it in before your engine blows internally resulting in a total loss for you.

Since the PCV Oil Separator is overdue then I would suggest to start with replacement and see if that helps. I am sure folks will have varying opinions on mileage interval but I replace my PCV Oil Separator every 60,000 miles / 100,000KM to avoid issues since it is a very important component.

Post pictures of the bore scope results for best feedback on this point.

Are any users with MY2019 having issues with oil consumption? That is when Audi changed the recommended oil spec to VW504 instead of 502.

I haven’t noticed any oil consumption. 5k OCI with Mobil1 ESP 0W30. 2019 with about 54,000 miles.

Almost 117K on my '17. 4200K miles into my OCI (Motul 5W-40) and I've just gone down my first tick on the MMI oil monitor. This is very typical for me. I'll likely get to the oil change between 5/6K knowing my kid's soccer schedule the next few weeks.
