Unfortunately, my vehicle has never made it to a 10,000 mile interval without the yellow oil indicator light come on. When I asked the Audi service agent , he states that the car does not typically make it to a 10,000 mile interval because of the large engine. Over the past 5 years the interval to add one quart of oil has been less and less. It has gone from ~9500, 7500, 3000 intervals. On July 22, 2021 I took my car in for the 80,000 mile service. The actual mileage on the odometer was 80,304. The car service was complete and returned. On August 16, 2021, my yellow oil indicator light came on at 81,588 miles. I called the my local Audi Service and was advised to come in for an oil consumption test. I also notified the National Audi Customer Service line to voice my concern for my car. I inquired if oil consumption is a known issue in the Audi Q7 2017. There was not a clear admission of this concern in their vehicles but it made me concern that this could be an issue because of historical issues with Audi's early consumption of oil. I am concerned because this vehicle has the oil indicator light come on in shorter intervals which make me concerned about the longevity and reliability of the engine.
You might want to check if there are any TSBs about oil consumption for your car. If there's a TSB for your car, it could explain the oil consumption and what you can do about it.

Little surprised that the light came on this quick this time. Had a road trip home at ~550mi that was the bulk of the mileage. Did have a VERY spirited driving session on Saturday afternoon to go pickup pizza . Hopefully that wasn't too bad. I'll be driving to/from Buffalo again next week and the week after as we work on finalizing the move. I'll be towing the boat up on the second trip. Then possibly towing the Silverado up on the 3rd trip, not sure on that just yet. Either way, look for some more fast updates as I'm going to be around 1,200mi/wk for the next month or so.

Someone should try Penzoil Platinum Euro 5w-40. I have been using this for the last 10,000 kms with no oil burn. Either that or the oil level sensor is broken. I'm doing an oil change tomorrow with the same oil. Liqui moly and Motul burned oil for me in the past with about 1/2 quart every 4-5k kms. I'm going to add a dip stick as well.

Where can I find it? I'll try it next round.

I burned more on Liqui moly but have had nothing significant with Motul over the first 4K of an OCI. I just ran it to 8K (couldn't get it into shop) and ended up burning just over a quart of oil, with all of that coming after 4K.

I found them at my local Canadian Tire, but I also see it available at Walmart here.

im curious what you find when you add a dipstick. My sensor says I’m about 1/3 low but my dipstick shows it’s full. Which takes precedence or should I average the two? 😁
Seems to me that neither are precise…

This engine was manufactured without a dipstick and none was made for it. If you are using one, it is for another engine. More info here: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/q7-...-crec-3067504/

I bought a dipstick to replace the plug on mine. It NEVER reads right, and is always a LONG way off. Sometimes it's not even on the stick, but shows full on the MMI. I've never taken the time to find a more appropriate dipstick that would fit, and honestly can't remember which one I got. I can go look if anyone wants to know which one to NOT get.

*edit*
Looks like I replied in that other thread. Whoops.

there is a dipstick I have used in the past which was spot on. it is the same one the dealers use when servicing the vehicle. I am looking for a link or part number but I bought it a long time ago and don't have the car any longer either...
