I looked at those. Tow rating is lower than I want (5,600lb), and I'm not a huge fan of the styling. If going with that platform, I would more likely go with an Explorer ST. Like the styling better there, although the Fords interior isn't as nice.
After my 2017 Q7 Prestige burnt a valve ( in process of repairing) we ended up choosing between a Tahoe High Country and the Lincoln Aviator. We decided on the Aviator due to its styling and comfort. We love it. Its suspension is not as sporty as the excellent one on the Q7 but it’s good. 400hp twin turbo V6, self driving etc
This thread has scared me into shortening my OCI to 4k. With the fcpeuro deal and an extractor it's little $$/effort for some added peace of mind. This change I did the liqui moly pro line engine flush and added ceratec to the fresh oil. extracted ~ 7.2L so i must've burnt ~.3L since the last change 4,200 miles ago. I now have 44k miles on the clock
i'm with @2qwick4u - i love this car and as long as it doesn't start drinking oil i plan to keep it another 3 years at least

There seems to be a pattern of oil burning starting to increase around 70K miles, so people way below that like you shouldn't worry much but must be on the lookout. These are very expensive luxury cars so parting ways with them after only a few thousand miles would make you lose big and does not make sense. The manufacturer's maintenance schedule of 10K miles OCI, no carbon cleaning and no PCV replacement seems to be designed to keep the engine alive only until the warranty expires. With all the information we now have on this engine, owners at lower mileage even under warranty should consider shortening their OCI and proceeding to an engine flush once in a while like you did. By 50k miles, owners should consider replacing their PCV and proceeding to a piston and exhaust valve soak which should be repeated every 50K miles because it's clear that one thing this engine is good at is building carbon, lots of carbon.
People in the market for a used car however should stay away from these, especially those above 70K miles and I hope this thread is scaring people way in that regard.
indeed. And I’m planning to do piston soaking myself. My concerns is a long term effect. with V6 TFSI, what B-12 will do to seals and gaskets, when gets into valves. I’m not concerned with getting through the pistons - as it gets mixed with oil. Also the catalytic converter might gets it’s useful life reduced significantly….

For sure if you do the piston soak I would change the oil immediately after. Then even after that I would run a very short OCI and change it again. Some people on Audizine go a step further and dump some of the B12 into the oil itself, which I personally think is not at all advisable.
A piston soak should be considered an option of last resort IMHO. This is why I have opted to try the Cummins Valvoline Restore product first, as it comes with much less risk.
Also on an unrelated note for the comments previously about burning more oil later into the OCI this is very normal as the oil will break down the further you progress into the OCI. That's pretty much textbook. It is definitely smart to change your oil at or inside of a 5K mile OCI. Oil is cheap compared to the alternative.......
Speaking of changing the oil. I changed mine again last night in preparation for a 2,500mi vacation that starts Friday morning. Towing the boat to FL from NY, and back. Should be a fun week.

Waiting a bit too long on this change. Probably should have changed a week or so earlier. Life got in the way with the move this time. Oh well.
Here's an update graph as well for those interested.
I had a 2020 Aviator. I liked it for the first year. After that, EVERTHING started falling apart. I had so many creaks, rattles and clanking. The software was utter garbage. They actually had a stop sale in 22/23 because they couldn't figure out how to fix the reverse camera. So many many bugs. Every time I went for an oil change, there were fasteners missing.
The engine was good, it had more pull than the Audi, but it wasn't nearly as smooth (and I actually thought it was very quiet/comfortable). If you're at all driver, than the Audi kick's it's *** 10x over. The handling and driving dynamics are light years ahead. The sag during mild towing on the Aviator was horrendous too. My 2018 Audi feels way more solid....in every way....than the Lincoln ever did.
There is absolutely no comparison. I do miss the keypad entry, the brake hold (apparently can retrofit into the Audi) and the ability to turn off the parking sensors without turning off the camera (that's one really stupid feature of the Q7).
That said, I did see a 2025? Aviator and it looked slick. However, Ford will always have "Ford Engineering" and build quality.
The Lexus TX500h got a high score from Consumer Reports
I have a TX350 and am very pleased with it. Had two 4M Q7s before that.

I totally believe this. Ford really focuses on their trucks and even those have some issues...

I hope that the shorter OCI works for you. Since I've owned my Q7 it has had 3k OCIs starting at 19k miles. Even with pro active maintenance, it started consuming oil at about 50k miles.
