Audi Roof Rack / Thule Motion XT XXL Box / Stowaway Max Cargo Carrier
Hi all,
I have a 2017 Q7 with the factory installed trailer hitch. As we are a family of six (11,12,13, & 14 year olds), we need both a box on the top and a box off the hitch to accomodate everything. I will send a few pictures of it complete next week, but thought some might find it useful as it allows 38 cubic feet of extra storage.
I have the factory roof bars. Quick and easy installation.
I decided to order the new Thule Motion XT XXL Box (22 cubic ft) to replace an older Thule Box (16 cubic feet).

I cannot stress how impressed I am with this new box compared to my old box. My old box only opened on one side and was a pain in the butt to install. I had the new box unpacked and on the Q7 in ten minutes and didn't even break a sweat. The new attachment system from Thule works great, you cannot over torque it, and its superquiet on top (I swear the foam in the back under the storage area made more noiset). Removal when I got home took all of three minutes.
Here is how the box looks on the Q7.
I also installed my Stowaway Max Cargo Carrier on the hitch. That went easy. I already had the correct wiring plug on my box. This product is great. It sits on a swing arm so you can access the back hacth area. It also fastens extremely tight so there is no rattle.

I had read that I needed a receiver lock with a "front-facing" key. This was key as my older lock would not of worked. Found that on Amazon.
If you have any questions, let me know. I will post more pictures once I have both boxes on the Q7.

tpgunn, thanks for sharing your setup.
Do you know how much length does the Stowaway Cargo Carrier add to the q7? I'm a bit concerned about parking.
Have you also considered Thule Transporter Combi when you shopped the Stowaway?

Thanks for sharing pics of your setup. I know I'm bumping a 3 year old thread, but I was searching for this very spec on a Toyota Sienna as we are heading across the country and was on the fence about buying the additional Stowaway2 Max Hitch Cargo Box as I already have the Thule Motion XT XXL but worried it's not enough space.
