Disagree. With the BMW we have the auto start stop permanently disabled.

There is no option to permanently disable auto start/stop without coding which is not for the average joe.

What I'm saying is the one time that I left the engine running, the *** was disabled... and yet it still happened...

Because I turned off the car, and in trying to turn off radio/etc completely, pressed the button again, and with foot on brake, turned it back on.. went out locked car, and came back hours later to car still running.

Did you get a chirp when you locked the vehicle?

its not supposed to be confusing. If it’s easy to accidentally turn your car back on, it’s a user interface design problem.

A lot of us on these forums have been tripped up by this.

I'm not suggesting it cant happen or is not confusing at first. But like all features, you have to learn how it works, and then it's just fine.

I don't think you can blame the car because you turned the car back on and walked away. Unless you coded it, you can't lock the door with the engine running either. So no door locks going "clunk", no "chirp" (if that is enabled for you).

On a BMW, it isn't "permanently disabled". Newer models (around 2016 and newer) remember the last setting for A.S.S. Previous models worked exactly like the Audi (defaulted to "on" after every key on event).

I have found myself accidentally turning the car back on again.. it all depends on several situations:
1. Auto-Start Stop
2. sequence that you: Put in park, apply parking break, and When you turn off the engine.

I have been experimenting with putting it in park first, which seems to stop then engine when in auto-start/stop. then put in park, and then sometimes when you press start button (to turn off engine) the car starts again.
I BELIEVE that if you stop the engine first, then apply the parking break, that the transmission automatically goes into park.

Still working on the best sequence.

I mean with ODB Eleven, the "coding" is really easy. Its an app. Click on it. Boom, works. Average Joe and Jane can do this.
