Spend some time with the Q7 on a lift this weekend and I figured I would share a finding with you all. A few weeks ago the wife stated she heard a loud bang sitting in a parking lot and felt like she was rear ended, but no cars were around her. I took away that she was crazy, but I was wrong...
Anyone had this happen on their Q7? It is the passenger rear for reference.

wow! Kinda sucks to get something like this on an otherwise reliable and trustworthy rig. But on the bright side, time to slam on the solid tried and tested H&R lowering springs? They use to float around for some $250 forgot when.
This just happened to me today. I had just parked and heard a loud bang but not like a car impact noise. like the OP no other cars around.
The car drove fine on the way home.
I'm lifting and inspecting later today.
Sure enough it broke. Right rear also. What to do now? Is it safe to drive on? Looks like the broken upper is laying securely on the control arm.
I will definitely be reporting this one to NHTSA.
I called dealer service and of course he's never heard of something like this.
I talked to the parts guy and he said it does happen every so often.
I made a report to NHTSA and called AoA but haven't gotten a call back yet.
Talked to AoA and was told it has to be inspected by a dealer and to go to the one I normally use for the “courtesy compensation” process to start.
I talked to the service guy and he said I should have had the inspection done prior to calling AoA. There’s a process where they look at where the car was bought and how many services the dealer has done to decide if the owner gets any compensation for repairs. This courtesy sounds like quid pro quo. Since I bought it from a private owner and have only had audi notifications and one large service (water pump) I’m not expecting any compensation.
