FWIW, I have made about 8 comprehensive claims on my USAA policy over the last 15 years - never resulted in a rate increase. The number climbs well over 10 if I were to include windshield replacements.
Depends on the insurance company and whether they will consider this a comp or collision claim. Good to ask some hypothetical questions before submitting it.

In can't see any insurance company considering his situation a collision. Collision insurance refers to protection for the car when it is involved in a crash with another vehicle or a stationary object. Comprehensive is generally "acts of God or nature", that are typically out of your control when driving.
Some of our comprehensive claims:
- Hit and run while parked
- Hail damage
- Truck tread (gator) struck front of vehicle
- Large bucket fell off truck, damaged lower front/rear
- Flying sunroof struck side of vehicle
Thanks for everyone's input. I talked with my State Farm agent and was told since it's comprehensive it won't effect my rate. I have an appointment tomorrow with my claims agent to review the damage. I have attached a photo of the damage in case anyone is interested. I know it looks small but in person you can easily see it, even from a distance. Since the photo is from the top, you can't see the dent. I suspect that the dent removal and paint will exceed my $500 deductible. I'll follow up tomorrow to let you all know what the cost to repair is. Thanks again for the input!
