Maximum Trailering Capacity (lbs) 4400
Dead Weight Hitch - Max Tongue Wt. (lbs) 440
Your tongue weight should always be ~10% of your total trailer weight for correct balance.
Is that for the 2.0L ? I believe the 3.0L engine has a rated tow capacity of 7,700. I know I should have mentioned what engine I'm looking at. 3.0L gas.
I'm mainly wondering about the max allowable tongue weight because I'd want to put a wheelchair/scooter lift on the hitch. Thanks
I have on my Q7 (EU) factory installed hitch. It is labeled, max 140kg load (around 300 lbs). But EU hitch is moved out and retracted by pressing and holding the button. So there is elctromotor involved. System not so robust. But I think, it can actually hold much more greater loads. When loading/driving mini excavator onto trailer, whole back of my Q7 was lifted up, rear wheels even got at some moment off the ground. No problem at all...
I believe the hitch on both 2.0T and 3.0T is the same (some variation on SQ7 - different part number but the same rating) are both rated as class III (6,000lbs weight carrying (WC), 10,000lbs weight distribution (WD) max weight). However max load capacity is also engine dependent, so 2.0T is rated at 4,400lbs max, and 3.0T at 7,700lbs max. (with 10% on max tongue weight).
Following a thought here, even though the tow rating on 3.0T is 7,700lbs, the rating on the hitch will only allow it with a WD setup, which is not typically found on most small box and boat trailers. Be safe out there.

SO we are just discovering reading these forums that our 7,700lb towing capacity 2017 Q7 actually can't tow anything near that weight because to safely tow that weight we need a weight distribution hitch, which, apparently, per the manual absolutely may NOT be installed on the 2017 3.0T Q7... is this really true?? However, in the quote above, it almost sounds like the factory installed hitch on our 3.0T is class III and therefore is automatically weight distributing? I'm just trying to figure out if I have to go sell my Q7 tomorrow or not, because my husband is gonna have a car that can haul his 6500lb travel trailer one way or another! I have found one forum posting where the owner went out and had the factory hitch reinforced, then used a weight distribution sway bar device, and feels safe hauling his trailer. https://www.audiworld.com/forums/q5-...amper-2915372/ Is this really the ONLY option I have? Very disappointed in this if it is true. I feel VERY misled in an advertised 7,700lb towing capacity. Audi: "Sure - you can tow 7,700lbs... just like you can jump off that building (legally, we do not indicate that either is safe)" IS there any hope for me to safely tow a 6,500lb travel trailer with my 2017 Q7 - and if so, what additions would I need to my car to tow that number safely?

I believe I read somewhere that the "Auto weight distribution" in the Q7 is if you have the Adaptive Chassis which raises the rear shocks as required for the additional weight. I also KNOW from experience on my old Q5 that if the hitch attachment to the car is not rated for weight distribution, that the first time you drive your trailer with the distribution attached, the trailer attempt to torque your hitch off your car - luckily I figured this out before the entire thing became detached and it was easily repaired.
According to manual I found online (I believe it is the same as the one in my glovebox), the weight limits depend on engine size AND whether the trailer has brakes. This highlights another fact I heard many years ago about trailer weight... it is not necessarily how powerful your engine is... but how powerful your brakes are. Does the 3.0 have bigger brakes? or is it just that it is heavier in the front end and has the power to pull more weight. I suspect that in this case, the power increases ability.
