Default Firmware update

How does one update the MMI firmware, mine is early build (June 2016) and I see that few options like (cell phone reminder) are added in the newer builds. I would like to update my MMI, any suggestions.
I checked with dealer and he is working with Audi USA but I wanted to know if there are good ways to update.

Thanks!

This is one of the things that Tesla nailed big time. Sending updates to their vehicles when they become available. With the Audi Connect subscriptions, this should be happening now. You shouldn't have to buy a new car to get incremental software improvements.

They don't update you at all unless you have a problem that they think might be resolved by doing one.

I got a newer Q7 2.0 loaner recently and it had the newer version that shows your destination as a waving flag which was cool.

You may be thinking about the map update, which you can do via the MMI. I don't think you can update the MMI software. Dealers probably only get paid to update the MMI software via the warranty if they can point to a fault, which may be why it's so hard to get them to update it. Tesla doesn't really have dealers in the traditional sense, so they don't have this issue. It will be interesting to see what happens over time, as EVs generally require less maintenance (brakes wear out less due to regen, engine doesn't really need fluids, etc), which means that they are going to shrink one of the main profit centers of many dealers.
