Rock must have hit camera and shattered the lens. I have new OEM camera on the way. I think there is enough room behind the grille to get to the camera without removing bumper. However not sure this is the case. Any tips or advice is appreciated.
How is the camera mounted to the grille (how do you release)?
Has anyone done this?

Thx.

Had the same situation a few years ago. Stone hit front grille camera. Camera still works, but parts of the image on the lower part of the screen are fuzzy.
Insurance would not cover under glass coverage, or mechanical breakdown coverage. May have been covered under comprehensive, but cost of repair and my deductible were very close. Dealer has quoted between 1,800 to 2,200 usd each time i asked price. 400 for part, rest for labor.
Dealer stated that front bumper cover needs to be removed to access camera and then all sensors need to be recalibrated.
I did try to access camera from top of grille, but was not able to do so..
Keep us posted if you find a better solution.

Camera is attached to front bumper. Bumper is not hard to remove. I removed mine and put it back without the calibration and all my driver assists are functioning well.

How about front camera potential rock/debris damage?
while tinkering with this, wonder if there would be a way to protect the camera lens from potential damage.
i was thinking maybe a skin, like the screen protectors on your phone.
Any thoughts on this?

This happened to my wife's Q5. I looked at DIY solutions, and ended up having the dealer do it, partly because it was more involved than I wanted to deal with, and partly because I wanted to makes sure the driver assistance features were operating normally.
