Automatic activation is found in the euro owners manual.

U.S. does not have that "automatic activation" section in the corresponding section of its manual. A total disappointment.

Other year models that have the front parking sensors will only activate automatically if the car is placed in reverse. Otherwise, the dash button must be pressed manually. Perhaps if more posters would include their model and year in their sig, this could be confirmed.
My sensors activate automatically. The car is June build, software version 0692.

Thanks for the info everyone! Okay, I think we are coming to the conclusion that updating the software version to 0692 is going to enable this feature for those of us that do not yet have it working. I assume this is something the dealer will automaticlally do at a service interval, if not I will ask them to do it.

From the MMI hidden menu. While the engine is running, push up the NAV/MAP button while pressing down the Media button - the after 5-10 seconds the red engineering menu will appear...

But you can also find the software info by following MMI Settings/left button/System Maintenance/Version Information.....

+1

I really don't like having to push buttons to get the sensors to warn me if I'm getting too close to the huge, car hungry pole in my garage.
On my '13 Q7 they were automatically on when I first pulled in & started beeping when I got close. I miss that

Just got off the phone with them and asked to add that to the reason as why I'm coming in and they said no problem. We will update your software.
