Default Key Fob Charging?

Does the key fob charge when placed in the slot between the cup holders?

Thanks,

Ben

No it does not. It has a typical watch battery in it. Replace it when it dies.

LOL no it certainly does not charge there and neither does it charge in the tray aft of that area with the key logo on it. Who told you it does? clueless dealer?

The new Q7's key fob uses the same non-rechargeable CR2032 button cell lithium battery as all the other previous model year Audi key fobs.

When the battery dies, you simply disassemble and pull out the battery tray on the fob, and replace it with a new one.

That location is for when the battery dies and you need to start the vehicle. Very similar to BMW where you hold them against the steering column.

The key fits into the slot between the cupholders perfectly so it must be by design. However, I don't know how happy I'd be if a coke spilled and got into the key.

If you spill a large amount of liquid in that area the key fob will most likely be the least of your worries. MMI controls/shifter would be what I was worried about. Key fobs are at water resistant as you have to have them out in the elements. Your mmi controls are not.

Yup. Heard a horror story about a dude spilling coffee all over the MMI and it cost a few grand to repair.

I have a strict no drinks no food policy in my new Q7. Not sure how long will that hold though
