Default MAF sensor and EGR temp sensor faults

Engine light came on the other day. Faults read are:
  • Mass air flow (MAF) sensor/volume air flow (VAF) sensor - circuit intermittent
    Mass air flow circuit intermittent
  • Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) temperature sensor A - circuit high

I know I already have issues with not enough long runs in the car and recently had the warnings of oil level being too high. Not seeing that warning at the moment but now have the above faults. So a couple of questions if anyone can help:
  • Can the MAF sensor being dirty cause the first fault? And if so, can it be cleaned or will just need to be replaced? Looks like a straight forward, easy job if so.
  • Can the EGR temp sensor issue be caused by the first fault, or vice versa? And does the fault normally mean bigger issues with the EGR or is it a common fault requiring replacement of the sensor? If so, how difficult is that job? Seem to remember the EGR was buried deep in the engine (when I had the classic coolant valve replacement done deep in the V)

Any help much appreciated.
