I have made a few 200 mile highway trips recently starting with a full tank of gas. Typically the projected miles remaining when I started each time was about 515 mi. After the 200 mi of driving I have found that the miles remaining has dropped by about 25% more than the 200 miles. The miles remaining shows about 265mi. The car is calculating about 22 mpg for both the short term and long term trip calculations and my actual mpg for the 200 miles is around 20 mpg and the fuel gauge matches this fuel consumption. Does anyone know what the car uses to calculate the miles remaining? I realize it won't be 100% accurate but being off by this much seems excessive. The full tank miles remaining has decreased since I first bought the car but I now have 3500 miles on it so I think it should be a little closer than 25% by this time. Anybody else experience this?

I am thinking that the miles remaining is adjusted by the current miles per gallon indicated so it will vary all the time.

When you fill up the miles remaining is calculated by the MPG from the prior tank, it will adjust based on your driving within the current tank of gas.

i tend to think if its showing 400miles remaining until empty, then is actually 200 miles..

Also keep in mind the mpg for the car is about 9% optimistic, I've fixed that on my vehicle but this 'feature" still sucks. Its better, but still off pretty badly. (especially at the start).
