Need 1qt of oil to continue driving

Normal. My S4 (same engine) used about 1L/1000 km, which is roughly what your car has used, and your car used that in the break-in where consumption is likely higher. Put in the quart and don't worry about it. If you want to accurately measure oil level get a dipstick. It is also possible that the oil level wasn't a maximum when you took delivery. The egauge has some measurement elasticity (ie not completely accurate and repeatable).
Edit: Forgot a 0: The S4 used 1L/10,000 km, not 1,000

As soon as it happened, I called the dealer, thankfully I was about 5 miles away and they said stop in so they can check it out. While at the dealer they said that is a normal warning that doesn't mean that you oil level is low it just means that your car has probably used up a quart of oil so they just topped it off and I was on my way within five minutes

Yeah, nothing to worry about. That's the electronic dipstick. Between min and max is 1-1.5qt, just like on a physical dipstick. Plenty of oil left if you get this warning. It just needs to be topped off and most dealers top off for free. It's very common for Audi engines to burn some oil. Audi considers it normal up to 1qt/1000miles. More than that is considered excessive.
Some folks believe in the Motoman break-in method, which basically says to redline and drive the car hard during the break-in period to properly seal the piston rings. However, this method is disputed by even engineers who work on very high-performance engines. Most experts tell you to gradually break-in your engine.
Some oil is supposed to get past the piston rings for proper lubrication and that oil gets burned up as part of the combustion. During the break-in period, more of the oil will get past while the piston rings seat against the cylinder walls. The consumption will probably go down, once the engine is broken in and will depend heavily on how you drive the car. If you drive it hard and redline often, it will burn more oil. For example my RS5, which gets driven hard and has an engine that's meant to be driven high in the rpm band, needs about a quart every 3000-4000 miles.

I would lean more towards the engine was not topped off properly against burning a quart in the break-in.
I did the "low RPM" break in for 500 miles and never used a quart in the 1st 10,000 miles.
Nice to know that is what the display will look like if I get low.
Glad to hear it was nothing.

The Audi service center warned me about this, and asked me not to be alarmed. If it happens, just bring it to a service center. They will fill it right there at the reception drive-thru area - minimum waiting time.

Funny, my dealer said it was normal to have that warning in the first 1000 miles and even gave me a quart of oil (in a ziplock with gloves!) to carry so I could top it off myself.
