I paid for my 2018 Q7 in July last year, so it should be possible to order a 2019 in August this year.

So if I did a custom order in June, would I be given the '18 model?

If you make the cut-off. Ask the dealer when the model year change over happens

Exactly. I believe that whether or not you get a 2018 or 2019 depends on when you plan to pick up the vehicle, not when you place the order. I placed my order in March 2017 but because I requested a September 2017 European Delivery pick-up, I got the 2018 model. Either your dealer or Audi USA should be able to tell you which model year vehicle you will get if you tell them when you want to schedule your pick-up.
