When I was picking up my new Q7 at dealer yesterday there was an older couple working with a salesman just behind me. We were both at a point where our salesmen were off working final paperwork, so we started chatting.
They told me they were buying a new Q7 to replace their 2017 Q7 that was totaled a few weeks ago. They were waiting at a red light and got rear ended. Police estimated the speed of other vehicle at 60 MPH!
Both said they never saw it coming, and were able to open doors and walk away, zero injuries. To date no other injuries have surfaced.
Their Q was shoved forward quite a distance. Estimate to repair was $45K, so insurance company totaled it.
They were so impressed how their Q7 took the hit that they said they didn't consider any other vehicle as a replacement. Only change is 3.0 this time, as he was not real happy with 2.0 after several months of ownership.
Not offense to 2.0 owners, but I just don't like the sound of a 4 banger. In any car.
It's one thing if the 2.0T Q7 got 3-5 mpg better mileage but it's just a measly 1 more mpg.
I know MPG isn't the only factor when buying a car but Audi would be doing the 3.0T a service when the Q7 gets its mid cycle refresh. It would be doing wonders for the 2.0T in a car the size of a Q7. I'm not sure how the 2.0 is in the Q5 and Q3, but its not meant for a car like the 7.
August 2016 my wife and daughter were hit head on by a guy going the wrong way traveling at an estimated 100+ mph. Wife was probably going 50 or so. There were 2 larger vehicles traveling in front of my wife that served out of the way. Wife didn't see a thing, just happened too fast. Both survived with major injuries. Daughter barely made it. There is obviously a lot more to that part of the story, but here's a picture to give you an idea.....

OMG, that is just terrible. I am glad they both made it, I hope recovery is in full swing. Wish you and your family the best.

Looking at the pic you posted, and reading that the other driver was traveling at 100+ mph it amazes me that anyone could have survived that.. So very happy to hear they both survived.

Wow, so glad that your family survived this horrible crash. I wish them the best.
My wife is happier now that we own a Q7.
looking at the photo, it appears that the rescuers had to use the "Jaws of life" to cut open the front pillar, and to cut out the center piller... Assuming that they also cut the doors off too? if so.. the Q7 appears to have retained the interior cabin very well. The front end did its job in protecting the cabin.
Makes me happier to own the q7!
