If you can’t find an adapter that meets the 6” requirement you could always bring it to a local machine shop and have a new hole drilled to the correct dimension.
Thanks. Great idea. And maybe have it cut it down if it bottoms out in the receiver (causing it to stick out too far)

i have a shop myself and drilled it using a 5/8 bit. It's very easy.
If you are still away from the required distance I would degrade the hitch load capacity of 770lb proportionally.
Porsche Cayenne OE hitch meets the 6" requirement and Curt manufactures the hitch for Audi (https://parts.audiusa.com/p/Audi__Q7...AW092730B.html). I have never used a WDH with Cayenne GTS or SQ7 towing over 5000lbs.

Reason: included link

I would recommend against this. I would never tow with any parts that deviate from their original design.

Thanks MolnEd. You are probably thinking, like I was, that the reason for the hitch pin-to-ball limit is the torque 'moment' at the hitch -- 0.5 ft x 770 lbs. being 385 ft-lbs and if the ball mount length was 9" for example the moment would be 50% greater at 0.75 x 770 However, somewhere I saw that the distance restriction is related to 'stability'. So not sure which it is. To go even further down an engineering rabbit hole, on my 4-cyl, the max tow weight is 4,400 lbs. and max tongue weight 440 lbs. I can't imagine the frame and chassis structure being any less robust on a 4 cyl than a 6 cyl, which should mean that I am way under any structural risk. I really need to have a few Pils with an Audi tech guy.

Bingo. That's the measurement. And, the link for the Audi-specific mount. Do you recall what your ball height was, relative to your coupler? The E-pro trailer I am looking at has a coupler height in the 21"-23" range and so the ball mount needs to turn up a good amount, on my Q7. MANY thanks for the link (I had a message out to Curt but haven't heard back).

I have a curt ball mount that is flipped up with a 2 5/16" ball. I also drilled another hole so that I can slide in the mount as much as possible. I don't recall the distance from top of the ball to the pin hole but I recall it being in the 8" or so range which is about 27% more than allowed. I derated the tongue weight and try to stay under 600lb.
