@ktf524 ... Thanks so much for posting the photos. I got the large cover off the rain sensor, but without your photos I was not able to get the two smaller covers off. Now I was able to do it, tap into the yellow wire and all is mounted and working perfectly.

Thanks again!

Which part of the rain sensor cover did you start with? I can't seem to pull it off.

Thanks,

Default Removing the rain sensor cover

I used a screwdriver and slipped it in at the rear of the cover and pushed where the red arrow shows. The trick was to unhook it where the two yellow arrows show.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try it tonight.

Quick question. Do you remember there's enough space to tuck in one of
these these
?

If I remember, once you get one side of the cover unclipped, you need to stick something in there to keep it open while you work on the other side. Otherwise, it re-engages and you end up just going back and forth, side to side.

Hard to say about your hard wire kit, can't really tell the scale from the photos. But I would say it will be VERY tight at best.

Here is the rain sensor cover. You can see that you need to spread the top to unhook it from the sensor itself.

Here is the mirror mount cover. Note that the piece on the right is not the right orientation for mating with the left piece but you can see how the left piece clips in.

I probed the wiring for power that was controlled by the ignition switch. There are 3 wires that go to the rear view mirror. The yellow is hot and the brown is ground. I had to fiddle around a bit to get a snug fit of the Mirror Tap probes into the connector.

Here is the Mirror Tap connected to the rear view mirror connector. I hooked it up with the plastic mirror mount plastic off but having done it once I could do it again with only removing the rain sensor cover.

I went with an after market "super suction cup" mount to tuck the detector up to the right of the rain sensor.

I hope this helps. Thanks to all who offered suggestions.
Thanks for this post! Got detector quickly installed in the same spot on the right side.

I've been using these permanent mounts on many of our cars. The suction cups always seem to fall off over time:
Permanent Windshield Mount for Beltronics Escort Radar Detectors 9500i 9500IX | eBay

A little bit of electrical tape helps to tighten up the fit to the detector and will eliminate rattling when on not so smooth roads. =)

edit: Here's some views of how it looks from both inside and outside. The permanent mounts with the dark adhesive make the installation less noticeable from outside. Another bonus is that it's as if Audi anticipated radar detectors to be mounted in this position as the sun visor shape opens around the radar unlike in our previous Audi's where the radar detector would prevent the sun visor from fully opening.

I used this technique and it worked perfectly. Thanks for posting it.

My Valintine Ones have been sending out false signals for the last few years because of all the laser/radar built into cars these days. To the point it's way to much trouble than worth.

There's an update to the Valentine One to get rid of "junk" K-Band alerts. You can send yours in for an update.

In my state, the cops all use Ka band, and there's no junk on that band, so I actually disabled the K band from being detected. Now I only get cops.
