I'm interested in this as well.
I called a couple garages and they told me installing running boards typically takes an hr. or so expect ~$100 for install, varies depending on car and board model obviously. That sounds about right but then I called the Audi dealer:
They told me about 14 hrs. to install ~$1400 labor costs alone.
They said there was a lot of cutting involved.
I'm unlikely to get OEM ones because of the cost but I found this note interesting:

So I have no idea if it was a newer or older model that took so long and the fact that the trailer hitch plays in its uh....interesting. The air suspension I could see, but no note about that.
If anyone can give more definitive info I'd appreciate it.

Please note that Audi Q7 Running Boards are only for models as of production date 11/01/2016, beginning with VIN WAUAGCM7GD042146. Running Boards can not be installed if the vehicle is equipped with Trailer Hitch 1D6.
If anyone can give more definitive info I'd appreciate it.
