Or better, when both are present, cross check - if either reports a low pressure, trigger a warning.
I also suspect the decision to use a passive/indirect TPMS system is another good way for manufacturers like Audi to cut down on unscheduled service visits, thus improving their brands' reliability ratings. The passive systems use the more reliable wheel sensors versus active TPMS which use valve-stem sensors which are more prone to failure due to the more extreme heat cycles it's subjected to as well as shock for actually being inside a spinning wheel being pounded by the ground. I've certainly had a couple of those go bad on me over the years - most recent being a TPMS sensor in my former RS7 which went bad in less than a year from new and Audi replaced under warranty. Makes sense for Audi to use the less-problem-prone indirect TPMS system in their best selling models; the Q7, Q5, etc. Meanwhile, their R8 and other RS models seem to have retained the active TPMS...

I’m on the fence, I feel it’s innovative in the sense that as a consumer I do not need the hassle of battery issues on the Tpms.

I have two sets of wheels for my other car and only one set has sensors. The cost of sensors was 450$, and the stock Tpms are starting to go.

Can see both sides... time will tell but like the idea of one less nuance to deal with.

As recommended in one of the other threads, I bought this:
Amazon Amazon
Fits perfectly in the 12V outlet in the cubby that is in front of the shifter. Has worked well. With huge variations in temperature here in Utah, it has been nice to have so I don't have to think about checking tire pressures as the temperatures change. I'm not sure I would want to reply on it as the only source of low tire pressure warning, but I now have the best of both worlds.

There is a direct TPMS retrofit kit that works great in other models. Might be worth a try.

Default Was Very Surprised

I was also very surprised that on a 2021 SQ8 costing over $100k that it didn’t have active tire pressure readings showing pressure for each tire. I’m sure I’ll get over it, but it is disappointing. To me, it’s cost cutting items like this that diminish the brand.

My TPMS light just came on... as it just got cold. I usually check every few months or before a road trip. I'd like to see actual PSI numbers too but its not crucial.
