Do you guys do it ?
The car has 85K + miles, a very slight hesitation sometimeswhen shifting, I think it would not hurt just on principle... I've seen youtube videos where it seems as simple as draining, measuring, refilling, and if not all that came out fits in, let it warm up, and refill more until you replaced what you took out. Is that incorrect ? Anyone here done it ?
Wife went to dealer today for an 80K service:
W: can you replace the tranny oil please ?
Service adv: it's lifetime, we do not do that. but we'd love to sell you continental tires.
W: That lifetime thing is nuts, can you do it anyway
SA: I don't know, we never do...It may cost $700, and $2000 for continental tires
W: so you never do it but you know it costs $700 ??? LOL (and we are a michelin house, sorry)
So it's on me if it does not require plugging into a VWTool.

Lifetime fluid means lifetime of the warranty, not the vehicle. Components failing outside of warranty is revenue for the dealership.
Transmission manufacturer says every 60k miles. I do both of mine around 75k as I don't tow anything significant and the wife grannies hers..
But I do front, center and rear differential fluid at the same time.

User above is right - every 60,000 miles is recommended. I hate how dealers and repair shops try to take advantage of women (and sometimes men too).. I make sure everyone in my family knows whats to be expected when they go in for service so they don't get ripped off

I did a drain and fill without removing the transmission pan on my 2017 Q7 @ 122k miles. I did use a scan tool to read the transmission oil temp to determine how much to fill. I followed the ZF fill instructions. However, I think if you measure the amount that is drained and then fill it with the same amount you should be good.
I had the same experience at the Audi dealer. They basically said replacing the transmission oil wasn't necessary.
I also ended up replacing all the 3 diff fluid as well.
I'm not sure the fluid changes made much of a difference however. At least I couldn't really feel it.

I recently looked into the transmission service as well. ZF has recommended service at around the 50k-60k mile mark. However, they recently updated their recommendation to 150,000 km (93k miles). I’ve attached two updated documents that annotates it. Don’t do this service at the dealer and find a reputable euro Indy shop. I was quoted a little over $500 for this service (drain/fill). However, I would look into getting a few pan with the filter. I ended up skipping the transmission service based on the updated recommendation and just did the service for both diff and transfer case. Hope that helps.

the issue is if you don't drop (and change) the pan you will be using the same filter. a fluid change with no filter change is better than nothing but I would personally recommend a filter change as well. just my two cents.

I did pan and fluid change at 70k. Well worth it when you see whats on the integrated magnets. Do the differentials and transfer case while you are at it.
