Default i say go for it..

im only 17 and i picked up an 86 4kq for $1600 and sure (after i bought it) door handels are breaking and half of the windows dont work any more and trying to find all the wires is quite a pain, the suspension is going out but i was planning to replace that anyway, and there are a few other misc. part like cv loint tie rod ends and bushings, but the car is still worth every penny to me. If you have some other means of transportation, and the cars in fairly good shape i think it will be worth it in the end.
but then again im 17

Default Whew read through all these posts.

Thats okay, you might pay 4000 for an urquattro and have the door handles fall off.

I need to post some pictures of the quasi-restoration of my street car that is underway. Holes in the floor from improper jacking at 3 of the 4 corners. The holes are fixed up. Starting to look like a car again.

Default I'm really pumped up.

I've been working on the rally so long, my white car has been sitting.

Hopefully it'll be moving again by Friday. Euro bumpers front and rear, Euro lights, smoked tails, full leather interior now from the zebra cloth.

After that its 034EFI and GT30 turbo on a 10V. I will be using one of the two Magnesium 10V intake manifolds on it as well as a magnesium rocker cover. Kevlar bits in the engine bay.

Default Sounds choice...

Speaking of magnesium...can you paint it and have the paint stick, or would you have to primer it with something other than a normal paint primer first? I'm thinking seriously of painting my BBS mag centers white or black. I know it's vintage, but I hate the gold.

Default I took it

to a metal finishing place.

They dipped it diluted acid to bring it to bare magnesium and then did a 10 minute dip in yellow dichromate to give it that gold irridescent finish. 20 minutes in the dip makes it brown.

If you want to fully paint it use a Dow#7 dip which makes the magnesium green. That green is paintable.

I would assume that Dow #7 fully oxidizes the magnesium so that it won't bubble underneath?

Default I'll post a picture of the yellow zinc dichromate finish if you want to see it.

Are you refinishing a Magnesium item?
