Is there any way to bypass the bomb? It seems like an antiquated and not entirely useful system, at least on a modern car. I think I understand what it does and why it's there, but I'm wondering if you can go around it and not have it at all.
Any takers?

Not sure that you understand the purpose of the bomb - it's not like the vacuum assist pump on the 4000's that have a rod that knocks that you can delete (so long as you don't left-foot brake). It may be possible to convert the brake system over to a vacuum assist system - the components from a non-bomb car may work, but you'd need the ps pump, brake booster, etc.
The bomb is supposed to store hydraulic pressure to assist the push of the master cylinder in operating the brakes. You can operate a car with a dead bomb, because the high pressure is still being supplied by the ps pump. BUT....imagine what would happen if the ps pump was not turning (broken belt, etc). no assist means a case of the shin splints as you stomp on the pedal.
Cheers!
