Default Engine mounts...contd.

Have new engine mounts in hand, can this be done fairly quickly from underneath? Manual is not clear. The drivers side looks easy to do, can't really see the passenger side from the top; hope it's clearer from underneath...

Default Re: Engine mounts...DONE.

OK job done. The one on the driver's side is a piece of cake, the air ratchet gets to two out of three of the bolts. Jack car up nice and hig, put jackstands underneath the car and move jack under the engine with some wood to protect the sump. Then remove the 17mm nut off the top of the mount. rattatatatwhoosh; no problem. Then remove both bolts holding the mount from underneath, one ratat...you know, and the other, windwind with the manual ratchet. reverse with new mount which in my case was about 3/4 inch higher than the one removed. Now for the PITA pass. side. Remove bracket holding oil cooler. Remove heat shield. I undid both fuel connections, and completely lifted the injection unit out of the way. remove the air filter box. now put 17mm socket on the center motor mount nut and I could get one click per movement (not much room) to start breaking it free. Then remove front mount nut from underneath, ratatatwhoosh, manually remove the rear one, windwind with the manual ratchet... In my case the lower part of mount FELL OFF since it is completely collapsed, so now it is easier to get the mount turned from below. Reassembly is straightforward. My engine came up about 1 inch on the passenger side, so now no longer rests on the sway bar...! Fairly straightforward, 2 hr job for a total of $67 inc. shipping.

Glad bolts all undid easily, if they had been rusty this could have been ugly.

Well, after getting a disaster delivered by DAS that would barely start I was so disgusted I bought a '90 Coupe Quattro also on ebay but I inspected it first. So at least I had something to drive through the winter... (after replacing the tinming belt) However up to now with the weather in Ohio I could have continued driving the 930. Global warming I guess. As you can tell from the picture I have a slight space issue... Right now for the UrQ I am looking for an uncracked dash; and finish off the vacuum system which is starting to pull a vacuum finally but I'm still not happy with it. The engine now runs much better after moving the valve timing two teeth so the marks line up, and fixing at least three vacuum problems. It also sounds much better now it's not resting on the swaybar anymore since I replaced the engione mounts. I am waiting for some new HT leads to eliminate the XMAS light show under the hood at night. Cosmetically I have obtained the black center piece for the trunk from Italy, and am waiting for the black lights and reflectors to arrive over the next few days. Have fitted the euro front headlights and am continually sorting out bad grounds and wiring issues. Need to remove the manual switch that has been hooked into the fuel pumnp. My most unfortunate moment was when a hail-storm came through here and basically took out my house roof, my wife's Dodge Caravan and the Audi which happened to be outside that day. Picking up a solid used hood next week and need to get the dentwizard to remove the dings in the roof and fenders. Still fighting with State Farm who told me the car is worth $4k, and they want to write it off. Is there an official audi club that does valuations?

Before I can drive it around I need to get the emergency brake working, and get the interior to where it is presentable...
