It's a tad smaller and has nice handles in the center, so it's easier to get in an out (what rear seat?). I finally even put in that black battery hold down (which has been on the shelf since purchase in 2004) and it seems like it will hold this battery down.

From gary's fuel relay post - it sounds like that extra pink wire off the + post is not for a fuel pump relay. I'll try disconnecting it.

The SIZE 41 batteries I normally buy usually require me to cut plastic off the ends along with removing the full width up-top handle before it will fit. I might try buying a battery from Audi.

Default Reminded me - i tried to get vent hose as per ETKA # in 2004 but NLA.

My car came without the black battery hold down or the vent hose. At least i was able to buy the hold down.

Default You can get the vent hose and the 90 degree elbow from any C4 Audi parts car...

My car didn't have the hold down, vent hose or, worse, the grommet the vent tube runs through that seals the bottom of the battery box.

I grabbed the vent tube and elbow from a junkyard and fortunately the hold down and grommet are still available new. All of the C4 Audis (92-94 100, 95-97 A6) have the battery box under the rear seat and they're relatively common so they make good donors.

I completely agree with your issues with most batteries and the UrQ battery box, though- I spent a half hour recently grinding the molded brackets off the sides of my WallyMart Type 41 just so it would fit all the way into the battery box. I posted the thread below when I first got the car because I couldn't find any batteries that fit well and were vented. The net was that a size 40R would be a better fit than the 41, but I couldn't source a 40R easily so I just used the 41-4. The bracket works fine with it and I finally have the whole battery area back to spec with the hold down, vent, grommet, etc.

BTW, I'm pretty sure the ground wire is supposed to be connected to the second threaded hole further down in the battery box as opposed to sharing the bolt with the hold down. That's where mine was connected, anyway.

Battery fit thread

Default ETKA gives me the hose size. I bet you are right about bolting the ground wire on the lower bolt.

441 915 505 hose
shorten if necessary
5X1X1850MM

I can tighten the **** out of the lower bolt without worrying about the hold down over squeezing the battery.

Default I checked ETKA. The UrQ & C4 part numbers are identical, so you can definitely use the C4 parts.

I didn't know that when I used them in my car, but both the hose and "angled piece" part numbers are identical (441 915 505 and 893 915 507, respectively). Might come in handy with a concourse judge some day ;-)

There are a few C4's in junkyards around here, so I should be able to grab a set or two if it would help.

Default Thanks - you prompted me to get off my butt - I found the 1 item in my parts collection

Looks like I won't be dying in a hydrogen fire. I've had this part for 5 years. Like you said 'too many cars too little time'.
I only wish I bought more parts back in 2004.

Default Non-Vented Battery?

The foto looks like there is no vent nipple. How are you going to connect a vent hose to this? If there is a way to retro-fit one, I'd like to know because I have a non-vented battery in my 81 that should be vented. The battery was moved to the trunk on my 81 (closer to the fuel tank so the inevitable explosion will be louder I suppose ....).

I'm going to have to put one of my size 41 batteries in the car.
