Default OMG, the 20v is finally pulling like it should.

I've been fighting a low boost problem for a long time now. I'd worked around it with a manual boost controller, but the car just felt bound-up somehow. Well this afternoon I played hookey from work for a couple hours and messed with a set of wastegate springs a friend loaned me.

HOLY COW! I picked a spring that was nice and tall and about in the middle for stiffness. Stuck it in, removed the boost controller and hooked up the wastegate frequency valve again. Took it out for a test ride and 24 PSI right off the bat. That strange bound-up feeling was gone.

So I stuck the RS2 MAF back on, put the headlight back in, washed my hands and took my girl out for dinner. On the way home we played on some of the freeway on-ramps. Passed a nasty modded geo metro on the outside of a 2-lane on-ramp, tires talking a bit, lifted slightly to point the nose, squeezed in the throttle and shhoooooom.

Ok, dumb stories I know. But I'm very happy to finally have the kind of power I thought a 3B could make. Now is the fine-tuning of the chipset and fuel pressure. My WBO2 is reading right at 10.5 at full boost from 3500 to redline, seems a bit rich but sure runs happy.

G'Night All,
Rich

Default Very nice, Rich...

Glad to hear you're making good power.

Having a 20020v, I can relate. What kind of turbo...is it an RS2 unit? Running about 10:1 weight/hp? Smoooooth. SHould be a fun beast now. When Mihnea comes through the country in about a month, I would get him to tune your ECU...seriously. He'll tune it for your car, and you'll be pulling about 270 WHP, would be my guess, if you figure 25% drivetrain loss.

And the 3B sounds so much better with that kind of power than an AAN, IMO. I know you have both.
It's funny how cool my Stromung sounds on my 200 vs. my S6. Much throatier and more growly.

Cheers,

Default Get that mixture right

You're way too rich at 10.5. I run about 12.5 to get the best performance from my AAN. You'll feel another surge in power if you set it right. Do you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator?

Hap, on the mix in Evahboost

Default Not at the moment.

I've got a 4 bar FPR with the 3B injectors. I have a 3B MAF and an RS2 one. I've just put the RS2 MAF in which should lean me out a bit. We'll see.

Thanks,
Rich
