Default Take my advice

Just use the car wash sprayers - work great.

You do not want steam - it will get into the grease on all the moving components - like the alternator, fans, wp etc. This will force the grease out and make the parts fail prematurely.
Whereas the spray washes will rise off the surface grease - but it's not hard enough to penetrate the bearings Been doing on my cars since the late 60s and never had failures.

don't spray directly into your air intake, otherwise, you should be fine.

I used Simple Green, let it sit (5 min), then let the water roll over the engine to clean it off.
